Study compares effects of antidepressants with running exercises for depression and overall health
“The first study to compare effects of antidepressants with running exercises for anxiety, depression and overall health shows that they have about the same benefits for mental health – but a 16-week course of running over the same period scores higher in terms of physical health improvement, whereas antidepressants lead to a slightly worse physical condition, as has been suggested by previous studies. However, the drop-out rate was much higher in the group which initially chose exercise.”
Report: Alaskans dogged by chronic diseases and many lack healthy lifestyles or regular screenings
“Alaskans have high rates of chronic health conditions that can lead to death, and they are failing to follow lifestyles that would keep those chronic conditions at bay, according to a newly released state report. Two-thirds of Alaska adults are overweight or obese, nearly a third have high blood pressure and 27% have high cholesterol, according to the state Department of Health’s annual Alaska Chronic Disease Facts report.”
CDC grant to provide $4.4 million to improve physical activity and nutrition in Colorado
“DENVER (Oct. 10, 2023) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently announced it is awarding a 5-year $4.4 million grant to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment as part of the State Physical Activity and Nutrition Program to improve physical activity and nutrition. The department will use the grant to support key components of the department’s Chronic Disease State Plan, 2022-2030, which aims to decrease the incidence of chronic diseases through enhancements to communities’ physical environments and increasing access to healthy foods, among other initiatives.”
California 1st state in nation to codify federal school nutrition standards
