Being diagnosed with hepatitis C is a life-altering event. It’s OK to be scared.
Being diagnosed with hepatitis C is much like being thrown into the middle of a ghost story. All of a sudden, your world has changed. Things that you once believed may no longer hold true. It’s OK to be scared. Fear is absolutely a valid emotion given the situation and it is a feeling that you should not ignore. However, you cannot deny your new reality. To get started, you must first accept that, whether you like it or not, you are on a journey.
You will be bombarded with information and advice from your healthcare providers, your friends and family, from strangers on the internet, and from countless other sources. It is essential that you take ownership of your own healthcare decisions, and in order to do so, you must be informed and you must be a proactive ambassador for your own health.
Chronic hepatitis C is a different experience for each person living with the disease.
There is no one-size-fits-all answer for optimal disease management.
Caring Ambassadors Program is committed to helping people living with hepatitis C to improve the quality of their lives. But there are many factors to be considered, including:
- when you were infected
- the amount of scarring in the liver
- genotype of the virus
- other illness you may have
- your treatment goals
The key to navigating the road ahead is to remember that this is Your Journey and that these are Your Choices.
