Hepatitis C Challenge: Hep C Caring Ambassadors Program
HepC Choices

Call your elected officials

Call your state and local elected representatives. Tell them you want hepatitis C moved to the top of their health agenda. Here are sample scripts and contact information:

Find your State’s Senators: http://www.senate.gov/
Find your State's Representatives: http://www.house.gov/

Call the Capitol Switchboard toll-free at 1-888-876-6242 and ask to be connected to your U.S. Representative. When you are connected, ask for the staff person who handles health care issues. Whether you speak directly to the staff person or leave a message, tell him/her: “My name is _____________ and I live in (city/state). I am calling to urge Representative _____________ to become aware of the hepatitis crisis in our country. Representative ___________, were you aware that there are an estimated 5 million Americans infected with hepatitis B and/or C? What’s worse is the majority are unaware of their status. Without awareness of status treatment isn’t possible. Chronic hepatitis B and C can lead to liver disease, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. 15,000 people in the United States die per year of these preventable diseases. Viral Hepatitis is a serious disease that can be prevented. I urge you to support any active legislation or funding for the education, prevention and treatment of viral hepatitis.

Next, call both of your two U.S. Senators (using the Capitol Switchboard number toll-free at 1-888-876-6242) and deliver the same message to their health care staff.
